Going to the beach in the Pacific Northwest isn't like going to the beach on Maui. Where's the white sand and the warm water? In lieu of the idyllic beach setting, when we want to go to the beach now, we go to Sol Duc Hot Springs. No white sand, but lots and lots of warm water. For just $12.50/person (or $8.50 if you buy 10 tickets), we can relax in the sun all day with a good book and partake of "the waters". Nita actually got a peeling level sunburn there in April, but this is the PNW, so no guarantees. Sol Duc has a large cool water pool with water filtered from the Sol Duc River and 3 hot pools of various temperatures, including a wading pool for the kiddies. The water has only a faint sulfur aroma, but will quickly tarnish jewelry, especially silver, so take it off before you go in. The hot springs are run by the Sol Duc Resort, which provides cabins, a snack bar by the pools, a restaurant and store. The National Park operates an excellent campground within walking distance of the pools... first come first served.
